Extra Deep Cleaning and Renewal

  • Test an area on the back of a door to make sure the Guardsman® product works appropriately, as it may increase the sheen of your cabinetry.
  • Shake the can well and spray the foam onto a microfiber cloth. Wipe the area until dry and repeat as needed.
  • Follow up with Guardsman® Anytime Clean & Polish to regularly clean, shine, and protect the cabinet finish.

Humidity Control

Our product warranty does not cover cracking, shrinking, or other damages resulting from fluctuations of humidity and dryness due to improper climate control or inadequate moisture levels. To ensure your cabinetry remains stable and damage is not caused by environmental conditions, your home should maintain consistent humidity levels between 40% and 50%.

Wood Movement

All wood naturally expands and contracts, gaining or losing moisture with extreme humidity changes. Wood is hygroscopic, which means it releases or absorbs moisture to attain equilibrium with the humidity and temperature of the surrounding air. Each wood species has its own density properties and potential range of expansion and contraction. When the air is too dry, wood frames, panels, and components shrink from lack of moisture, resulting in cracks and voids. When the air is too humid, wood frames, panels, and components expand because of the extra moisture. Warm air typically contains more moisture, while cold air is much drier. Sudden temperature changes cause the most dramatic changes in material.

Repairing Damages

As frames, panels, and components continue expanding and contracting, evidence of cracking and damage will continue to resurface. Before any touch-ups or repairs are attempted, consistent climate control must be achieved. Repairs will only be effective once optimal humidity levels have been achieved and maintained. It will take about a month after the proper humidity level has been reached for wood components to resume their original position and repairs can begin. Properly controlling temperature inside the house is healthier for the inhabitants as well as for cabinetry and furniture. Protect the longevity and condition of your custom Grabill cabinetry by maintaining the proper humidity levels in your home.
